At one time the diets people ate consisted of raw foods which are very nutritious. Today, the average diet includes processed foods with not much value nutritionally. Add to this the increase in chemicals found in the foods and environment, it is difficult for the body to control its chemistry. A rise in chronic and life threatening diseases is the result. Alkaline diets achieve proper balance of pH in the body and improve health.

The more alkalescent foods are added to the diet, the stronger the results will be. People who are not able to eliminate acidic foods from the diet completely can focus on eating as little as they can. Every time an acidic item is replaced with a non acidic food, you are getting closer to reaching optimum health.

This kind of diet has resulted in controversy since it focuses on consuming mainly fresh fruit, nuts, tubers, roots, legumes, and vegetables. Extra salt, grains, dairy, and meat is avoided. However, follow this diet, will balance the pH in your body.

The average diet consists mostly of dairy, meat, sugar, saturated fats, caffeine, and alcohol. This type of diet creates an acidic environment in the body. The pH balance affects all living cells in the body and has a tremendous effect on health. If you continually have a high acidic pH, you are negatively affecting all the cellular functions of your body.

A number of problems are caused by an imbalance in body pH. These problems are heart disease, weight problems, nervous system problems, fatigue, obesity, allergies, cardiovascular problems, cancer, and premature aging.

Alkaline diets can improve overall wellness. Reducing the amount of acidic food and drink, while increasing alkalescent food and drink, will create a balanced body pH and a healthier you. The goal should be to eat food that are 75 to 80 percent alkaline, and not more than 20 to 25 percent of foods that are acidic.
